Root CA Certificate from The Commerce Company
Introduction
Part of Making Commerce Simple(sm) is making commerce secure. In an effort to
offer secure certificate access via SSL links to selected portals, Commerco
created this page to allow you to configure you browser to install a Commerco
Trusted Root Certificate.
The whole reason for doing this is simply to allow transactions, which may
one day include personal information, to be encrypted from your browser to
our servers. Pretty simple.
This certificate is self signed by Commerco using the
OpenSSL certificate generation
system. This system was chosen to allow guests to use secure SSL from
selected Commerco portal sites and because Commerco has a large number
of portals, we felt it prudent and cost effective to go this route.
Please note that you only need a Commerco trusted CA Root Certificate in order
to use SSL encryption, and must install our certificate only if you want
to use SSL at Commerco portals supporting SSL. When you use the other CAs
already installed in your browser, you already implicitly trusted your
browser supplier to select these authorities for you so, if you already trust
Commerco portals, this process is not a big deal.
Install a Commerco x509 CA Root Certificate in your browser client
While the heading to this section sounds a bit like something from outer
space, this is really not all that hard to do in under a minute.
- For most browsers, simply click here
and your browser will ask you if you wish to install through a series of prompts.
For example, Opera will install a certificate very quickly, while Netscape goes
through a fairly rigorous dialog. In either case, you should be able to get
through the dialogue in well under a minute!
- For MS Internet Explorer users, click here
and when you are asked to open or save, if you choose open, the MS IE Certificate dialog
box will appear and you can click "Install Certificate" to start the MS IE certificate
manager import wizard, taking the defaults, to install your Commerco CA Root
Certificate. Alternatively, you may also choose to save the file and install it
later by using the right mouse button and selecting install certificate to being
the certificate manager wizard.
FYI, Commerco is implementing SSL transfer as a function of some data services we
expect to introduce shortly in Commerco's Lists.Net
portal as well as to secure some views to data within Commerco's
Companies.Net portal and some others to
be announced. Nothing really mysterious, just secure commerce transactions.

us, as we are not involved in the SSL certificate issuer business. Rather, we
