The Commerce Company is pleased to announce its endorsement of Barbara Simons for
the ICANN Member at Large seat.
Ms. Simons brings a balanced and objective industry view of issues critical to the
interests and growth of the business of Internet electronic commerce. Her advocacy
of reasonableness in positions that impact the future growth and success of
Internet e-commerce related issues, coupled with her experience and insights into
these matters, make her a superior candidate for the job. Given the challenges
all e-businesses face in developing and maturing successful Internet commerce
strategies, much work remains. As such, Commerco is pleased to endorse Ms. Simons
for the ICANN Member at Large seat.
What is ICANN and why is this important?
ICANN, The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the
non-profit corporation that was formed to assume responsibility for the IP
address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, domain name system
management, and root server system management functions previously
performed under U.S. Government contract by IANA and other entities.
As you can see, an important part of what ICANN does is its work with the
domain name system. Internet domain names have been making news. The character
of the Internet and how small and large companies can conduct global electronic
commerce is directly impacted by ICANN, thus making it an important body that
everyone in the Internet community should be aware of and learn about.
